Historic fact:

DIGGERS MEMORIAL
The Diggers Memorial was erected in honour of diggers past and present. This fountain you will find in the Ernest Oppenheimer Gardens. The gardens are a memorial to the late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, a mining magnate. He was the first mayor of Kimberley when Beaconsfield and Kimberley were combined into a city in 1912.

Other interesting info:

The Kimberley police were concerned about the number of incidents reported in Greenpoint, Beaconsfield and Diamond Park, where minors and vulnerable women were being attacked and assaulted. The SAPS members conducted door-to-door visits in the mentioned areas where they interacted with residents of the area and also handed out pamphlets with safety hints and contact numbers. Parents were also urged to be aware of their children’s whereabouts at all times and not to leave them unattended for long periods or leave them in the care of strangers. The children were informed of the dangers when accepting sweets, money and food from any person in order to either perform certain acts or to accompany them to places.
