Beginning at the fire station south of Alexandria, the relatively easy Alexandria trail first passes through the Alexandria forest, one of the finest indigenous forests in the Eastern Cape. Bushbuck, blue duiker, bush pig and vervet monkey occur, and the forest represents the most southerly distribution of the trumpeter hornbill. Before reaching the overnight hut, the trail runs parallel to a wild section of the coast. On the second day the hike crosses the Alexandria dunefield, South Africa¹s largest active dune system, before returning to the forest station.
