"The southern part of this barren abandoned country has an allurement without comparison. Pre-historical disasters and storms left an amount of wonders carved in the hard warm land. The Fish River Canyon, one of the biggest wonders of Africa, is carved in the earth to a dept of 50Cm and the river twists and turns like a muddy python through the canyon. The 161km long and 27km wide ravine is surrounded by high, forbidding cliffs. The awesome grandeur of the canyon is surpassed only by the Grand Canyon in the USA. Near the end of this gulf is Ai-Ais, a hot water source and a true oasis in this barren area. The water boils at 65°C out of the earth crust. We get he chance to swim in this warm spring water. The indoor pools are shallow with seats and spouters at the sides for those who want to relax. We spend the night in Karasburg."
