Lothair (K 9)

Name: Lothair

Lothair is a picturesque small town situated some 40kms to the East of Ermelo. The town is situated close to the Swaziland border and its economy is derived solely from forestry and its allied industries. The main species found in the local plantations are Pine from Mexico and the USA and Eucalyptus from Australia.

Lothair's saw mills are the basis of a thriving community in this town. Lothair is situated in the heart of Mpumalanga's wetlands, and this makes the town an ideal center for the bird watching fraternity. The presence of many dams in the area offer the visitor some excellent fishing, mostly Bass. Other activities offered in Lothair include pony trekking (stabling facilities are available for those who wish to take their own horse), quad biking and 4x4 facilities on a beautiful 600 hectare site, tennis and squash. A number of historical sites in the Lothair region shed light on its colourful past.

They have now closed the railway line where this shot was taken. It is between Grahamstown and Alicedale.
